The rule

Only fresh prices count (under 90 minutes old), and from 30 September 2026 (rule va-v2) exchange prices — Betfair Exchange, Matchbook — are not treated as a soft bookmaker's price. The fair price is Pinnacle with its margin removed (power method). A selection is judged once, the first time the best soft price beats the fair price by 2%; it becomes an alert only if, at that first moment, the gap is at least 5% and the odds are 3.50 or shorter. Gaps above 12% are treated as data errors, not value.

Why this rule

We replayed 6,882 settled matches exactly as the prices arrived. The rule was chosen on data up to mid-August 2026 and then checked once on later matches it had never seen: 478 alerts, average CLV +5.3% versus the devigged close (95% interval +4.5% to +6.1%). Taken one data refresh later, about an hour, the CLV was still +2.5%. Smaller gaps did not survive the delay, so we do not alert on them.

Read this before acting

Prices move: an alert may already be gone when you open it. Soft bookmakers restrict accounts that consistently beat the closing line. Positive CLV is evidence of value over many bets, not a promise that any bet wins or that you will make a profit. 18+. Bet only what you can afford to lose.

Nobody can promise that. A value flag only says a price was above the fair price when we saw it, and a bookmaker can limit accounts that take such prices.
